“Matthias, it’s late. You should get back to your own room. Aunt Felicia must not know.” Mark said quietly as he pulled his knees up to his chest.
“It was a nightmare.” stated Matthias. He stared at his twin brother, and he couldn’t help but wonder what had happened if their house hadn’t caught fire. Would they still be treated badly back home, or would their parents have realized that it was not the right way to treat their own children?
It’d been five years since they had moved to Vesdran, five years since their last nightmare, and five years since they were given a new chance in life.
“It was,” Mark agreed. “And I’m fine, Matthias. You’re tired too. I just need some time alone to calm down, and I’ll go back to sleep.”
Frowning, Matthias crawled into bed next to Mark and pulled him down to lie next to him. He easily draped the duvet over Mark, and stared at him when Mark gave him a questioning, confused look.
“You’re my brother. I’m not leaving you alone. Not now, not ever.” Matthias murmured as he patted Mark’s head. Several emotions flickered through Mark’s eyes at once, and then it settled for comfort and bliss.
If the whole world pointed their guns at Mark, Matthias would kill them one by one for the mere fact that Mark did not deserve any cruelty in his life at all.

Kyran rocked on his heels, one hand on his hip and the other hanging by his side as he raised a brow.
“Matthias.”
He raised his head to meet Kyran’s questioning gaze and shrugged.
“You called me over because you said you wanted to show my something.” He paused as he took in the sight of weapons that laid across the table. “This isn’t exactly what I had in mind.”
Matthias’ss lip quirked up into a smirk as he crossed his arms. “Were you expecting something else?”
Kyran bit down on his lower lip, half tempted to reply with a cocky remark, but he knew he needed this. He took in a deep breath and allowed himself to savour that short moment.
“No,” He eventually sighed, letting his ego turn down a notch before he took another step into Matthias’s apartment.
“That’s what I thought.”
a lot of thanks to @hsinlvegas for always being a bub and telling me where to improve on, and @rawcatlawnchair for being my faux editor. this is the third and final draft for the prologue! ❤️ (alternatively, you can read it on wattpad!)
In a world torn apart by corruption and greed, cities all fed on money. Few cities could proudly say that they were clean and free. Even fewer countries dared to announce their threading on thin ice between corruption and equality. One city, though, that dared to was Vesdran.
With corruption and money in the system, human experimentations were not a surprise. Decades ago before Vesdran was clean from corruption, many families invested in human experimentations that mostly consisted of modifying the genes of their unborn children.
@hheimdall @vintersinsmy brother is sitting in the chair in my room studying a practice test thing for his final test before he becomes a fully certified EMT tomorrow and he’s mumbling some of the questions out loud and he just went “a child has fallen from a monkey at school…” and he just got dead quiet and stared at the wall for like a solid minute with the most stricken look on his face before he whispered “there’s no protocol for monkeys”
